There’s no better time than Halloween to give yourself a fright!

Every year thrill-seekers are spoilt for choice with spooky events sure to get the heart racing – and this year is no different with a whole host of terrifying Halloween activities across the UK .

However, for adrenaline junkies after an even bigger heart-stopping scare, a visit to the UK’s biggest theme parks is a must.

Every year hotspots including Thorpe Park and Alton Towers pull out all the stops and create terrifying live mazes and spooky offerings alongside their already thrilling rollercoasters – and this year, they’ve seriously upped the stakes.

Think The Walking Dead-inspired mazes and terrifying monsters lurking at every corner.

Meanwhile for little ones who might not be ready to face off against the night’s terrors, theme parks including LEGOLAND and Paulton’s Park have much more family-friendly offerings from mischievous spooky characters to pumpkin carving and fancy dress competitions.

Alton Towers Scarefest

This year’s Scarefest features brand new live maze Project 42, where valiant volunteers head into an underground lab where human test subjects have been infected by a mutant antidote. Your mission? Find the vaccination – but avoid contracting the infection yourself…

It’s not the live maze which will be on offer, not to mention smaller children will no doubt have plenty of fun at the Monster’s Ball.

When? Friday 2nd November until 9pm.

How much? Theme park tickets are from £33 per adult and £27.50 when booked online at least five days prior to your visit. Project 42 live maze tickets re an extra £5 but pre-booking is advised. You can book tickets on the Alton Towers website .

Thorpe Park Fright Nights

Thorpe Park’s partnership with AMC’s The Walking Dead continues, with favourites on offer such as the Saw themed live horror maze (and don’t forget about the terrifying rollercoaster) as well as the creepy Big Top carnival or haunted escape rooms in Containment.

When? Thorpe Park has yet to confirm exact dates but it’s already offering up late nights (3-10pm) on the weekend of the 5th-7th October.

How much? It’s worth buying in advance online where prices are from £32.99. Buy on the day – both online and at the park – will cost £53.50. You can buy your tickets here .

Chessington World of Adventures Resort Howl’O’Ween

There’s fun for the whole family – even little ones – at Chessington for Halloween.

Adults can take on the new live maze Creepy Caves Unearthed, while young children will no doubt get a gentle scare at spooky story time with the retelling of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved book ‘ Room on the Broom ‘.

There’ll be a new Haunted Howl’O’Ween live show sure to be a hit with the whole family, where you can expect to try the monster boogie, dance with werewolves, jive with ghouls and waltz with witches.

There’s also a fancy dress competition, the scary but not terrifying Curse of the Lost Tomb Maze, as well as extra perks including Rides in the Dark and the ‘Trick or Treat Wood’.

When? The event will run throughout October on the following dates: 13th-14th (until 8pm), 19th (until 6pm), 20th-28th (until 8pm), 29th-31st (until 6pm).

Legoland

Kids can get stuck into a whole range of spooky activities at LEGOLAND Windsor Resort in the lead-up to Halloween.

Previous years have included plenty of ghostly decor, including a LEGO Skeleton Big Build or even LEGO and DUPLO pumpkins to build for a pumpkin patch, as well as very special shows at the DUPLO Puppet Threatre – not to mention they’ve hosted fancy dress competitions.

And little monsters might be able to catch a glimpse of scary yet friendly characters Frankie, the friendly monster, Lord Vampyre and Orange Brick will be roaming the park to meet little ones

When? Halloween season will run from the 18th October through to the 1st November.

Paulton’s Park

The home of Peppa Pig World will be offering up some great Halloween-themed activities for little ones.

There’ll be fun decorations – including more than 1,500 pumpkins placed around the park, as well as The Little Monsters Ball, Freaky Fancy Dress Competition and a brand new Legends of Paultons Manor show.

When? Every day from 4th October through to 5th November. The park will extend its opening hours on Friday 26th/Saturday 27th October, from 10am until 7.30pm.

Halloween Pumpkin ideas

Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Every day until Halloween from 1-3pm, Creepy Hollow will open its doors in Planet Rock for fun and educational workshops where kids will meet Stick Insects, Cockroaches, Giant Snails, a Snake, a Lizard, a Tenrec (Madagascan hedgehogs) and plenty more animals!

Meanwhile, Lougarock the Werewolf and the terrifying curse of Scepticemus will be creeping around trying to catch you off guard – but the brave can scare them back!

The biggest event is Vampire Beach, a late night of thrills and chills including an amazing fireworks display. Come in your best fancy dress – adults in costume will receive a FREE vampire blood cocktail, while kids will receive a non-alcoholic vampire-inspired drink too.

Then be ready for 4pm when the vampires, zombies and werewolds run amok amidst the live bands and stilt walkers. Oh, and if you’re brave enough, take on the Horror Maze…

When? Vampire Beach is on Saturday 27th October, but Halloween events run from 20th-31st October.

How much? Wristbands start at £25 for adults and £23 for juniors if booked online in advance. You can buy your tickets here.

Dreamland Margate

Come Halloween, Dreamland turns into Screamland, with a host of brand-new scare mazes, including the Dreamland Sleep Experiment, Mary Decomposed and Upside Down, along with firm favourites such as Dead and Breakfast. (Scare mazes are 12A and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over at all times).

Tickets will include access to all seven scare mazes from 6pm, as well as unlimited use of the rides. Want to take part but not sure the live mazes are for you? There are ‘No Scare’ tickets which don’t include the mazes but allow you to make the most of the spooky atmosphere after dark.

Dreamland will also be hosting Halloween themed music events including Totally Wired’s 13th annual Halloween Party in Hall By The Sea on Friday 26 October, 9pm to 2am, and Bugged Out in Screamland presents Halloween on 27 October, 7.30pm to 2am (both are 18+ events).

When? Screamland will be taking place throughout October on the following dates: 19th-20th, 25th-27th, 31st. It will be running 6-11pm.

How much? Early bird tickets are available up until the 21st September, with standard tickets from £20pp on weekdays and from £22pp on weekends. You can book your tickets on the Dreamland website.
