Police raided a schoolboy’s birthday party after neighbours mistook the noise of toy guns for real shots.
Oliver Green celebrated turning eight by shooting soft foam Nerf bullets with friends at his rural village home.
But police were called in by a neighbour who reported hearing gunfire and the sound of children screaming.
After realising the guns were harmless toys, officers posed for photos with the excited children.
Oliver’s mum, Lisa Green, 47, said: “The officer said they had been called following reports of machine guns going off in my garden.
“I told them that there were some guns, but they are only Nerf guns.
“We all had a bit of a laugh and I asked if they would want to come in and see what was happening and they did.
“They were brilliant. The kids loved it.”
The mixup happened in Yaxham, Norfolk, as Oliver partied with 18 friends on Saturday afternoon.
The children were playing with Nerf guns – toys which fire foam darts, discs, or foam balls.
The police officers stayed for around ten minutes after taking a number of photos.
Lisa, who works for a fundraising business with husband Jonathan, 43, added: “I am grateful for what they did because they made my sons birthday one he will remember forever.”
Earlier this month Norfolk police answered another bogus callout in Yaxhum during a World War Two battle re-enactment.
A force spokesman, said: “Police were called by a member of the public reporting gunshots and the sound of children screaming.
“Following these concerns for safety, officers attended an address in Yaxham and found a child’s party in progress.
“No offences were committed.”
