Maureen, 72, warned the battle to empower women risked going too far and said too many pop singers were sending out confusing messages.
She claimed they were walking down red carpets in “all this bondage stuff — dressed a bit like a prostitute would have dressed”.
She added: “Young female pop stars are saying, ‘It’s my body and I’m empowered to show it to you’. But then, ‘Don’t touch it, don’t come near it, don’t flirt with it’. And it’s a shame because flirting is some of the best fun you’ve ever had in your life.
“We’re batting our eyelids and clenching our teeth at the same time.”
Maureen, soon to join Coronation Street as Tyrone Dobbs’s battleaxe grandmother, also said it was time to stop judging stars for the way they behaved decades ago.
She told the Radio Times: “It’s too all-inclusive. It smacks of, ‘Let’s get every light entertainer and unfashionable comedian or performer — let’s get ’em for putting a hand on a knee 40 years ago’.”
