Khalil Mack never blinked, and soon he will be a Bear.
The star outside linebacker, who has been holding out throughout training camp, with the regular season starting in a week, is being traded from Oakland to Chicago. The Raiders will acquire at least two first-round picks in a trade that is not yet official, according to NFL Network.
Chicago will negotiate a long-term deal with Mack that is expected to trump the contract Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald just received (six year extension for $135 million).
Mack has not showed up for Jon Gruden’s training camp, but the thought all along was that one side would cave. The Raiders never did and were not willing to give him the megadeal the superstar demanded. And Mack is a superstar: The 2016 Defensive Player of the Year, the 27-year-old has been to three straight Pro Bowls in a span in which he has 36.5 sacks.
The Jets had outside hopes of landing Mack, but it would not have made a lot of sense for a rebuilding team to deal multiple first-round picks.
