BARGAIN OF THE WEEK 

Taste the Difference Zinfandel 2016, £9 (usually £13), Sainsbury’s

With almost a third off the normal price, this Californian red is an absolute bargain at the moment. It’s loaded with juicy bramble fruit flavours with a punch of spice. Mellow and moreish.

WHITE WINE 

Tesco Finest Albarino 2017, £8

A gorgeous example of Spain’s hidden gem, from the Rias Baixas region up in the north-west corner. This one’s a peach, full of character and big, bold grapefruit and apricot flavours.

Food pairing: Fish pie

ROSÉ WINE

Vino Rosé 2017, £12, Morrisons

The producer behind this Californian rosé was inspired by Italy. Using Sangiovese (the grape behind the wines of Chianti), this is super-stylish with cherry and redcurrant flavours. Pricey but worth it if you love your rosé wines on the bright side.

It looks like Mum might well be going to Iceland, to pick up another bottle of this crémant from France’s Loire Valley. With honeysuckle and apple flavours, these are classy bubbles that don’t break the bank.
