Family liaison officer Samantha Dixon discovered husband PC James "Dixie" Dixon had been killed while reading messages on a police computer.
The 39-year-old – known to viewers of Sky One TV show Road Wars – was killed instantly when his motorbike collided with a car in Wargrave, Berkshire, last December.
Samantha, 35, was six months pregnant at the time and has since given birth to baby Parker Cameron James Dixon – spelling out his late father's initials PC J Dixon.
Speaking of the moment she gave birth, Samantha said: "When he was born the consultant held him up so I could see what sex he was. Mum and I just broke down.
"It was such a great moment but it was tinged with sadness because it was the son he'd never get to meet.
"Those first few moments were magical but also one of the hardest things I've ever had to do because it was something we should have been doing together.
"He's an absolute spit of his dad. You can see it most in his eyes and mouth. I know sometimes in these circumstances people just see what they want to see but everyone says it. It's not just me."
Samantha met James on the job at a first aid course ten years ago and the pair married in 2016.
They spent ten months trying to conceive and were delighted to discover they were having a baby in July 2017.
But their new life was cruelly ripped apart when James died on December 5, 2017 during a training exercise.
Revealing the moment she found out her husband had died, Samantha said: "The week before there had been lots of rain and terrible flooding and I remember being particularly worried but the day he died was a pretty normal really.
"I actually thought I was on call, so when I saw there had been an accident I was getting ready to deploy someone to assist the family when I realised it was him.
"Once I read that he was in traumatic cardiac arrest I stopped reading.
"I think I went into professional mode. I was very aware that I had a baby growing inside me and I was only 27 weeks at that point so I didn't want to bring on early labour.
"We'd recently got a puppy together, called Turbo, and I suddenly had a massive urge to go and be with him. I think it's because it was the last big thing we had done together and we had nurtured him together."
James' funeral took place at Saint James the Less Church in Pangbourne in January this year and around 600 people turned out to pay their respects.
Brave Samantha gave a speech and said feeling her baby move inside her gave her comfort.
Parker is now five months old and Samantha is trying to cope with being a single mum and has pictures of James around the house so the tot know who his dad is.
Samantha, who is looking forward to returning to work, said: "Dixie was always the first to volunteer to help people. Whether it be cutting down a tree or helping someone move house.
"I want to try and carry that on for him as I know it's what he would have wanted. It would mean he didn't die in vain."
