Warning! This article contains major spoilers for the latest Power episode, ‘Friend of the Family’. You have been warned.
Power warned us that no-one was safe, and the drama’s recent episode certainly lived up to that promise – and then some.
Airing last night (August 26) on Starz in the US and streaming on Netflix in the UK from today, Power delivered a shocking twist in the tale of 50 Cent’s Kanan after Tasha (Naturi Naughton) and Tariq (Michael Rainey) tried to frame him for murder.
After being pulled over by the police – and unknowingly packing heat in the boot of the car – Kanan did everything he could to avoid returning to prison, but with disastrous consequences.
Kanan managed to shoot and kill all of the officers present, and make his getaway in a police car… but not before getting shot himself.
In an exit we didn’t see coming, Kanan ultimately collapsed onto the steering wheel and died from his injuries, leaving fans choked-up, and pretty damn furious.
Whether we like it or not, Kanan’s death shouldn’t have been such a shock – after all, Power‘s creator Courtney Kemp did promise a “more tragic” fifth season.
“It’s more intense. It’s more visceral. And I think it’s more tragic,” she said earlier this year. “Look, no-one’s been safe on our show for quite some time, but obviously, the main characters have had longer lives.
“We are reaching the end of this journey, so the main characters are less safe than they have ever been before.”
Power airs on Starz in the US and on Netflix in the UK.
