If you missed the first episode of this new political thriller tonight I strongly suggest you devote an hour of your Bank Holiday to catching up on it before tonight’s second episode.
Even if you did watch it tonight you might want to give it another viewing just in case you missed something – I definitely spotted a couple of extra things second time around.
Not that it will help you work out what’s going to happen next. Just as he routinely does on his hit police drama Line Of Duty, writer Jed Mercurio has set up all manner of scenarios – and I’m guessing he’ll keep us dangling all the way to the end.
All I can say is I already do not trust anyone in it – which is exactly what you want from a thriller.
It stars Game Of Thrones actor Richard Madden as Sgt David Budd, a former soldier who is hiding his PTSD in order to keep his police job.
His life is further complicated when – as a reward for foiling a terrorist attack on a London-bound train – he is promoted to the role of personal protection officer to pro-war Home Secretary Julia Montague, played by Keeley Hawes.
That sets up a real career dilemma for Budd – how can you possibly protect the person that you feel is to blame for all your problems?
The fact that there is an obvious sexual spark between them will, I suspect, only add to the dilemma.
Will he kill her or sleep with her or both?
And if he goes for option B will we see Keeley Hawes singing I Will Always Love You by episode three?
To be honest, given the rich vein of form she’s been in lately she’d probably nail that as well.
