Kendall Jenner is facing some major backlash over her recent comments about the modeling industry. Love magazine posted a topless shot of the 22-year-old with a snippet of an upcoming interview for the mag’s 10th anniversary issue, and it was revealing in more ways than one.
The caption featured a direct quote from Kenny, in which she discussed being “super selective” about which jobs she takes.
“Since the beginning we’ve been super selective about what shows I would do. I was never one of those girls who would do, like, 30 shows a season or whatever the f*ck those girls do. More power to ’em. But I had a million jobs, not only catwalks but everything else. The whole combination was very overwhelming, and I started to freak out a little bit and needed to take a step back.”
She also said she was “on the verge of a mental breakdown,” which caused her to sit out much of Fashion Week.
When fellow models caught wind of KJ’s comments, they were not happy. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star has been called out loads of times for not having to work as hard as “real” models, and her own words further proved that point.
Russian model Daria Strokous posted a screenshot of the post on her Instagram story and went off on Kendall.
“‘Whatever the f*ck those girls do’ is do their very best to make their way up AND try to make some money so that they can provide for themselves and their families,” she wrote. “Oh, and it’s 70 shows a season by the way. And we all are f*cking proud of every single one of the girls that did it.”
Daria wasn’t the only one to publicly criticize Kendall for her comments; lots of other models called her out, as well.
Ken eventually responded to the backlash by explaining that her words were taken out of context and that she meant it as a compliment to her fellow models.
Seeing as KJ struggles with anxiety, it makes sense why she wouldn’t take on as many shows as her peers. Her comments did seem super harsh, though, but we’re glad she cleared things up!
