Game of Thrones' Jaime Lannister actor says "all the pieces fit" in "surprising" season 8 ending

With the final season of Game of Thrones not coming out until next year, the actors have to keep everything under wraps but still giving journalists enough of a tease to not waste everyone’s time.

And teasing us is something that Jaime Lannister actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is very good at, offering us some tantalising hints as to how the ending of season eight will play out.

He told TheWrap: “I read it, and I wrote Dan (Weiss) and David (Benioff) and said I don’t think they could have done a better job.

“I mean, when I read it — I’ve spent so many years working on this and been guessing and trying to figure out how this will end — and when I read it, some of the parts of it I’d get, and other parts of it were just completely shocking and surprising.

“And it wasn’t, there were none of those horrible — you know shows where it’s a murder mystery and at the very last minute you find out it doesn’t make sense? But here all the pieces fit into this massive jigsaw puzzle.”

Talking more specifically about the strained relationship between Jaime and sister/lover Cersei, Coster-Waldau said: “It didn’t make sense. They have a future, potentially another shot at having a child, and she’s willing to risk everything for something to him that just doesn’t make sense.”

She’s totally faking the baby, and he’s totally going to kill her, isn’t he? Definitely. Maybe. Eurgh, this wait is torture.

Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere in 2019. The show airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Season 7 is now available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray or digital download.
