Soleil Moon Frye, who celebrated her 42nd birthday on Tuesday, August 14, has something else to be happy about — dropping 42 pounds.
“I feel so good,” the Punky Brewster alum tells Us Weekly. “I feel like my best version of myself because I have the knowledge of those 42 years … [but] I feel so young, which I think is a really good thing.”
For Frye, her body transformation was tied to how she felt, not what she saw on the scale. “Whatever shape and size we are, truly I believe whatever we feel is our best,” she reveals to Us. “For me, I was having a harder time with the extra 42 pounds running after the kids, keeping up my energy. I needed to just feel like my best.”
After welcoming her fourth child, Story, now 2 (she also has Poet, 12, Jagger, 10, and Lyric, 4, with husband Jason Goldberg), Frye decided to kick-start her weight-loss journey the same way she had after baby No.3.
Back in 2014, “I was really struggling and I called up my girlfriend Melissa Joan Hart and I said, ‘Does this Nutrisystem thing really work?’ She said, ‘Yes, it totally works for me.’ I called them up and I ordered the food and I was so excited that I got to eat waffles and all of these sweets … because I’m not somebody that can just drink lemon water and all of that, so I’m like, ‘Juice cleanse? What? I don’t know how to do that for a week,’” she reveals.
Because it worked for her before, restarting the at-home pre-made meal program was a no-brainer this time. “I was hard on myself and I wasn’t feeling great and I am really a person that even when I’m going through a hard time, I want to try to look at the positive so I had to say, ‘Ok, how can I feel like my best version of myself?’” she shares with Us about her thoughts as she kicked off her weight-loss journey in 2016.
Frye also incorporated regular workouts with her personal trainer and friend Teddy Bass, as well as outdoor activities such as paddle boarding, bike riding, beach walks and beach volleyball into her daily routine. “I really try to [work out] ideally four to five days a week, but it doesn’t mean that I’m always doing the same thing … it may be that we have an active day at the beach,” she explains. “The other day I was running after the boys at the beach, and the girls and I played volleyball and I counted that as my exercise.”
If the actress is able to snag some solo time, she uses it to sneak in a body or mind workout, like a cardio sweat session or quiet meditation. “If I can get 40 minutes for me either on the elliptical or to just be in my own space … just finding that time for myself to center myself is so great.’”
It’s no surprise that when the Nutrisystem ambassador lost pounds, she gained confidence.
“I feel so much more confident — I feel so much more present and in my body,” she says. She’s also happy to share the results of weight-loss journey with her fans. “I have gratitude to @nutrisystem & @teddybfitness for helping to push me to feel like my best self after four babies and to my inner child that gives me strength each and every day,” she captioned a July 2018 Instagram photo of herself smiling and wearing a white bikini.
I was heading to the lake this afternoon with the kids and Jagger snapped some pictures of me. I happen to be in my bikini. I looked at the pictures that I can so quickly analyze and pull apart and thought to myself, Thats not so bad. I am about to turn 42 and yet feel younger than ever at times. I am so grateful to have the perspective of age while being able to live in the moment. I have my days when I want to curl back up in bed and hide from the world but today is a good day. I am thankful for the good days & humbled by the harder ones that I measure them by. Thankful for my family and tribe of amazing friends who support, love me, and always have my back. I have gratitude to @nutrisystem & @teddybfitness for helping to push me to feel like my best self after four babies and to my inner child that gives me strength each and every day. #grateful #todaywasagoodday #nutrisystemambassador

“I’m not trying to impress somebody,” she tells Us of her body-baring post. “I just want to feel good and that may mean saying, ‘You know what? Yeah, I’ve got love handles, but I’m just gonna feel good about it. I’m gonna arch my back and find the best angle, that’s what I’m gonna do!’”
