Kanye West says that he wasn’t rendered speechless on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last week, he was just thinking of a proper response to a heavy question.
“On ‘Jimmy Kimmel’ we had a great time having a dialogue. I’m reading that I was stumped by a question. Let me clarify the click bait. I wasn’t stumped,” West, 41, tweeted Saturday night. “I wasn’t given a chance to answer the question.”
“The question was so important I took time to think. And then I was hit with the ‘let’s go to commercial break.’ That interview showed strong personalities with different opinions having a civil conversation,” he continued.
Kimmel, 50, diplomatically took West to task for his support of Donald Trump.
“There are families being torn apart at the border of this country. Whether we like his personality or not, his actions are what matter,” Kimmel told West on the show. “You so famously, and so powerfully said, ‘George Bush doesn’t care about black people.’ What makes you think that Donald Trump does — or any people at all?”
Kimmel confirmed West’s assessment of the situation.
“Not every question warrants an immediate answer,” the late-night host replied to West’s first tweet. “Some answers need to be considered and a talk show with time constraints is a difficult place to do that. I know how much Kanye cares and I am so impressed by what he is doing quietly and without fanfare to help those who need it.”
West also expressed his joy at Kimmel “leading with love,” which was one of the many topics Yeezy touched upon during their talk.
“I was so happy when I saw Jimmy walk out in the Yeezys,” he wrote. “That was an olive branch. He [led] with love. I appreciate Jimmy and his team. You guys are Jedis. Much love.”
