Australia's Adam Scott and Jason Day clawed their way back into contention before play was suspended midway through the second round at the US PGA Championship.
While officials sounded the horn just after 3.30pm local time on Friday, Scott had fired a five-under-par 65 at Bellerive Country Club in Missouri hours earlier to earn a 36-hole score of five under.
In the hunt: Jason Day.
He sits five shots back of clubhouse leader Gary Woodland, who maintained his place atop the leaderboard with a 66 elevating him to 10 under and one shot ahead of fellow American Kevin Kisner (64).
US Open champion Brooks Koepka fired a blistering 63, equalling the PGA Championship record for lowest round, to leapfrog into outright third at eight under.
Playing in the afternoon wave, Scott's fellow Queenslander Day was only beginning to make his move before the weather suspension.
The former world No.1 reached the par-5 eighth hole in two shots and two-putted for a birdie to climb to four under and six shots off the pace.
Adam Scott sits five shots back of clubhouse leader Gary Woodland.
After two more solid shots at the par-4 ninth, Day will face a 22-foot birdie putt when play resumes.
Earlier, Scott teed off the 10th alongside world No.1 Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson.
He jumped out of the blocks with a front nine of 31, which featured four birdies, before picking up another shot on his homeward stretch.
Marc Leishman sits at one under following a disappointing 71.
Australian club pro Craig Hocknull (three over) and Cameron Smith (four over) were out in the afternoon wave and have their work cut out to get inside the projected cut line of even par.
