Lindsay Lohan has a hot take on the #MeToo movement.
In an interview with The Times, the Mean Girls star claimed she doesn’t “really have anything to say” about sexual harassment in the workplace — but she had some harsh words for the women who’ve been outspoken about it over the past year.
Telling the British publication she didn’t condone “attention-seekers,” the 32-year-old explained:
“I can’t speak on something I don’t live, right? Look, I am very supportive of women. Everyone goes through their own experiences in their own ways.”
If LiLo had it her way, victims of harassment or assault would confront their abusers head on or go to the police instead of going straight to the media:
“If it happens at that moment, you discuss it at that moment. You make it a real thing by making it a police report. I’m going to really hate myself for saying this, but I think by women speaking against these things, it makes them look weak when they are very strong women.”
Not just weak, in Linds’ eyes, but attention seeking:
“You have these girls who come out, who don’t even know who they are, who do it for the attention. That is taking away from the fact that it happened.”
*Gretchen Weiners voice* We can’t believe she thinks they like attention.
Sure, due process is important and not every allegation is worthy of a Pulitzer-prize winning exposé, but Lindsay isn’t seeing the big picture here.
The point of a movement is to change how society acts. Yeah, in a perfect world, women would already be empowered and ready to smite their abusers — but we sure as hell aren’t there yet.
