Demi Lovato wants fans to know that she plans to “keep fighting” her addictions.
The singer broke her social media silence to share an emotional message on Instagram Sunday. She has not been in the public eye or on social media since her reported overdose and subsequent hospitalization in late July.
“I’ve always been transparent about my struggles with addiction,” Demi wrote in her letter. “What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.”

“I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well,” she continued, apparently referencing her alleged overdose. (Initial reports suggested that Demi overdosed on heroin, but sources close to her denied those reports. Multiple sources also reported that Demi was revived with Narcan, an emergency drug used to reverse the effects of a opioid overdose.)
“To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond,” Demi wrote. “Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time.” She also thanked her family, personal team, and the staff at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles where she was treated. “Without them I wouldn’t be here writing this letter to all of you.”
“I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery,” Demi concluded her letter. “The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side. I will keep fighting.”
According to People, Demi will enter rehab after her time in the hospital. “She understands the severity of her overdose and the recovery has been very challenging for her,” a source told the magazine. “She wants to be sober.” The singer has spent time in rehab before—first in 2010 for her mental health and addiction issues, and then again in 2012 when she entered a sober living facility for a year, according to People.
Here’s hoping Demi continues to heal and recover.
