Britain's longest heatwave in 42 years set to end with plunging temperatures and rain ahead

Temperatures are expected to peak at 88F (31C) on Monday before dipping to 77F (25C) on Tuesday. The Met Office said showers would accompany the cooler conditions with more unsettled weather to come. It peaked at 87.2F (30.7C) yesterday as the nation bathed in blue skies and glorious sunshine on St Swithin's Day.
