Catastrophe star Rob Delaney revealed on Saturday, June 30, that his wife, Leah, is pregnant, five months after the couple’s 2-year-old son died after battling a brain tumor.
“Just had 2 typically wonderful @NHSEnglandLDN midwives visit my pregnant wife & I for a home birth assessment,” he tweeted on Saturday along with a video that showed him talking about how the U.K.’s National Health Service helped his family as his son, Henry, battled cancer after being diagnosed in 2016.
“The UK’s National Health Service spared @robdelaney’s family from financial stress while they endured the grief of losing their son,” the video was captioned, adding that Delaney “encourages fellow Americans to get involved in the fight for Medicare for All.”
As previously reported, Henry died in January. “He was a beautiful little boy from the moment he was born until the moment he died,” Delaney, 41, says in the video, which shows images of his little boy.
The Boston-born star says that both he and his wife, as well as Henry, benefited from the NHS’ help. “While we endured stress that was truly unbelievable, we didn’t endure the financial stress of wondering, are we going to be able to pay for this? Are we going to have to move during his treatment because we have to move in with relatives? What a gift.”
“There’s nothing more certain than the fact that you’re going to need medical care of some kind or another and you should be able to have it,” added Delaney, who shares two other sons with Leah. “And the United States of America can extremely afford it. What they can’t afford is the system that we have now, which is bananas.”
