Woman killed instantly when giant icicle falls onto her head from flats above

A woman was killed instantly when a giant icicle fell from the roof of a block of flats in front of horrified passers-by.

Security camera footage shows the tragedy unfold, with the ice spear crashing into victim Natalia Shamuzova’s head.

The 60-year-old immediately fell to the ground.

It happened in the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan.

One person close to the accident saw what happened but walked away.

A man – apparently in shock from the tragic accident – is seen calling the emergency services on his mobile close to the woman’s body.

Reports said the pensioner died “instantly” from the large icicle.

Her body is seen on the street as people walk by as if nothing has happened.

Later the scene was sealed off.

Reports say the pensioner’s family are preparing to sue the municipal authorities which are responsible for removing potentially lethal icicles hanging from buildings.

Contractors named as Verny Vybor had cleared this building but evidently missed the killer icicle.

Separate footage shows other uncleared icicles hanging from the building.

Tolemis said: “Icicles were crashed by the municipal workers but it looks like they did not clean up all of them.”

Local police registered the incident at Adal Residence as a “tragic accident”.

But the local administration in Bostandyksky district claimed the contractor was “responsible”.

Officials were “in touch with the relatives of the dead woman and is ready to provide all the necessary help with organising the funeral”.

The authorities have promised to support the family.

But KTK TV reported the family intended to sue over the woman’s death.
