Woman hit over the head with a MACHETE in Charlton as London bloodbath rages on

Cops were called at 7.18pm last night to a road in Charlton, South East London, following reports a woman had been attacked.

They found a woman in her 50s had suffered a cut to her head after she was attacked by a man armed with a machete.

The suspect – who did not know the victim – crept up behind her and struck her before sprinting off.

He is described as being an Asian man, aged in his 30s and of heavy build. Cops believe he may have been wearing a tan jacket.

The woman was rushed a hospital in South London and her injuries are non-life threatening.

A Scotland Yard spokesman

said: "A victim, aged in her 50s, had suffered a cut to her head after being attacked with a machete.

"The suspect, who is unknown to the victim, approached from behind and attacked her before making off in the direction of Woolwich Road.

"Police enquiries are underway to identify and trace the suspect. Officers from Greenwich investigate.
