Who was Joan B. Lee?

Joan Boocock Lee was a British-American model and voice actress.

She was born in Newcastle in 1922 and grew up in Gosforth and Fawdon.

After World War II, she relocated to the United States after marrying an American servicemen who she had only known for 24 hours before their marriage.

While working as a hat model in New York and bored with her marriage, she was set up to go on a blind date with Stan Lee.

When did Joan and Stan get married?

When Lee went to Joan's modelling agency to meet his intended date, Joan opened the door before Stan immediately professed his love for her and told her he had been drawing her face since childhood.

Lee proposed two weeks after dating and Joan got a quick divorce to the American serviceman.

On December 5, 1947, she divorced her first husband before immediately marrying Lee in the room next door.

Together, they had two daughters, Joan Celia "J. C." Lee (b. 1950), and Jan Lee, who died three days after delivery in 1953.



Did Joan appear in any Marvel films?

In 1981, Stan and Joan Lee moved from New York City to Los Angeles. There, she lent her voice to several animated Marvel shows in the 1990s.

She first appeared in Fantastic Four in 1994, voicing a reoccurring character and voiced a computer in the Iron Man television series for three episodes in 1994.

Joan later appeared in Spider-Man as Madame Web, appearing in eight episodes from 1996 to 1998.

She made her last appearance in a cameo in the 2016 film X-Men: Apocalypse alongside her husband.

Joan passed away on July 6, 2017, at the age of 95.
