When is Amazon Prime's Lorena UK release, what is the Bobbit story and where are they both now?

But, when will Lorena be released, what happened between the Bobbits, and where are they now? Here's all you need to know.

When is Amazon Prime's Lorena UK release?

Lorena will be released on Amazon Prime on February 15, 2019.

The docuseries was produced by Jordan Peele who recently rose to fame as the director of Get Out.

The series will tell the story of Lorena Bobbitt from America who made headlines back in the 1990s for doing something outrageous.

Viewers can expect four episodes of the programme re-examine the scandal with a modern perspective.

The case is especially relevant now, considering how the era of #MeToo has deeply confronted rape culture in our society.

What is the Bobbit story?

On June 2, 1993, Lorena Bobbitt shocked people around the world by chopping off her husband John Wayne Bobbit's penis with a kitchen knife while he was asleep.

She then went ahead and threw his genitalia into a field through her car window.

When she got home she surprisingly called 911.

The emergency staff was able to locate the chopped off penis and reattach it.

When taken to court, she explained that he had raped her earlier that night.

She went on to share how her husband repeatedly abused her sexually, physically, and emotionally, which drove her to take this drastic action.

Where are they both now?

The trial concluded with Lorena not being found guilty due to insanity.

John, the husband, was acquitted of rape – meaning he walked away from the trial with no charges.

The two filed for divorce and went their own ways following the trial.

Since the incident, John has tried to form a band named The Severed Parts which failed, got charged with striking a young woman and went to jail for 15 days, and took on various bartending, driving and delivery jobs in Las Vegas.

In 1999, he was put on probation for theft, which he violated in 2003 by assaulting his then-wife Joanna Ferrell.

As for Lorena, she kept a low profile until making headlines for assaulting her mother in 1997, but was found not guilty.

She has since founded Lorena's Red Wagon which helps prevent domestic violence.
