Trump launches petition for ‘spineless’ ESPN to show national anthem

President Trump took a shot at Gov. Andrew Cuomo as he launched a petition to force “SPINELESS” ESPN to air the playing of the national anthem on “Monday Night Football” broadcasts, according to a report.

“Just after we heard a sitting governor trash America, ESPN has now decided it will no longer play the National Anthem before Monday Night Football,” the petition said, TMZsports.com reported on Wednesday, a clear reference to Cuomo’s comments last week that “America was never that great.”

“If ‘America’ is too offensive for anyone in our country, then what are they doing in America,” it continued.

“I’m calling on you to join me in denouncing this SPINELESS surrender to the politically correct liberal mob. I was the first person to sign this petition. Now I need you to follow my lead and be the second,” the petition said.

ESPN President Jimmy Pitaro said last week that “We have generally not broadcasted the anthem and I don’t think it will change this year.”

Trump has blasted NFL players for kneeling during the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

During an interview in May, he suggested they should even be deported.

“You have to stand proudly for the National Anthem, or you shouldn’t be playing, you shouldn’t be there. Maybe you shouldn’t be in the country,” he said on “Fox & Friends.”
