Trump: I’m not responsible if GOP loses big in midterms

President Trump won’t be accepting any of the blame if the Republicans lose big in the midterm elections, he said Tuesday.

Trump said his campaigning and endorsements have helped Republican candidates vying for the House in November.

“No, I think I’m helping people,” he said, dismissing suggestions that he might take responsibility for midterm loses, as previous presidents have.

“I don’t believe anybody has ever had this kind of impact,” he added.

The president has been campaigning aggressively for some Republican candidates, with a string of rallies held in recent weeks. But, he said he’s heard from some of his supporters who say they may not vote in November because he won’t be on the ballot.

“I’m not running. I mean, there are many people that have said to me, ‘I will never, ever go and vote in the midterms because you’re not running and I don’t think you like Congress,’” he said.

“Well, I do like Congress,” he added.

If Democrats do end up taking the house and pursue impeachment or investigations, including into Trump’s tax returns, Trump said he would “handle it very well.”
