Traumatised dog put down after being raped by twisted couple who used hormone spray to get the beast aroused

Bubba, an Akita-mix breed, was sexually abused by his owner, Frederick Manzanares, on a customised bench built to facilitate sex acts with the dog, according to an arrest affidavit.

Manzanares, 51, pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanour animal cruelty in September, reports the Denver Post.

On Tuesday an Arapahoe County judge sentenced the Aurora man to six months’ prison and two years of supervised probation for engaging in sex acts with Bubba and his former girlfriend, Janette Solano.

His co-defendant admitted one count of animal cruelty and was handed a 24-month deferred judgement and sentence.

She told police that her former boyfriend sent her videos and literature about bestiality. Although the act was made a crime in Colorado in 2007, having sex with animals was previously legal.

Manzanares’ arrest affidavit said that he had filmed sex acts with Bubba, and used a hormone spray to arouse the dog, before he was abused on a padded customised bench.

During a search of a mobile home used to carry out the acts of bestiality, officers discovered photos and videos showing Solano having sex with Bubba while Manzanares was nearby, adds the Denver Post.

Bubba was euthanised earlier this week after the Aurora Animal Shelter reported that during his impoundment he had “exhibited unpredictable behaviour and shows signs of aggression towards veterinary services, staff, volunteers, community service workers and staff members.”

Jenee Shipman, Aurora’s manager, told the county court: “It is my opinion this dog is not a safe adoption candidate based on continued increase in aggression observed daily.”

During sentencing, Arapahoe County deputy district attorney Amy Ferrin told the court: “Bubba is not doing well at all.”

Judge Cheryl Rowles-Stokes, who considered the dog’s fate as part of the sentencing, said: “This dog cannot recover.”

Manzanares told the court he now realised his sexual desires towards the dog were “morally wrong”.

His request to work with Bubba to help his rehabilitation was denied, with the judge forbidding the pervert from owning, caring or living with any animals during his probation.

Manzanares must also – as part of his sentencing – undergo treatment for his deviant sexual behaviour, says the Denver Post.
