This is despite both the coastguard and the local council giving warnings earlier in the year and putting up signs this summer urging the public not to stand too close to the cliff edge.

Some of the pictures show a man in a black t-shirt, accompanied by his partner, sitting in the dangerous location, where the cliffs are prone to severe rock falls without warning, for some time.

Another image shows a man taking a photo from the summit of the cliff, just feet away from a life-ending fall.

The incident last week doesn’t appear to have put off the latest batch of sun-seekers and coastguards are again warning people to stay safe.

Jake Lanning, of West Bay Coastguard, said: ‘The very hot weather we’ve been having this summer, teamed with the short, sharp downfalls, is prime conditions for cliff falls.

‘Last week in Yorkshire a nine-year-old girl very tragically died in similar circumstances so we’re just asking people to be careful.

‘It seems like a never-ending cycle of people going up to the edge of the cliffs and our core advice has always been the same.

‘Before you go and take that picture, ask yourself is it really worth risking not only your own life, but the life of your family?’

Photographer Graham Hunt said there were several signs warning about rock falls near the areas he saw people.

He said: ‘I was down there for about 45 minutes to an hour and there were several people milling around the top and the edge of the cliff.

‘It was only later that I noticed there was a man sat right on the ledge with who I can only assume is his partner.

‘There are a lot of signs in that area but I think he must have been there for quite some time even before I noticed him.

‘The girl in Yorkshire died as a result of a large bit of rock hitting her on the head so you always have to have things like that in mind.

‘To sit on a ledge like that with no concern for your safety is a very stupid thing to do indeed.’
