Three teens killed in horror crash pictured as heartbroken friends pay tribute

Three teenagers killed in a horror car crash have been pictured as heartbroken friends pay tribute.

John Michael Jones, 18 – known as Michael – Leon Rice, 17, and Colin Hornsby, 17, died in the two-vehicle collision on Friday evening in Denbigh, Wales.

Four others were also injured – three seriously.

Dozens of floral tributes with heartfelt notes have been left over the weekend at the scene of the tragedy.

Colin’s grieving family, from Greater Manchester, said ‘life would never be the same again’.

In an emotional tribute they said: "Colin was loved by all his family and friends. He loved life, music and his designer clothes.

"He will be missed by all his family and friends and our lives will never be the same again without him.”

All three teenagers were pronounced dead at the scene and three others were taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

One person also sustained minor injuries, North Wales Police said in a statement.

Dozens of floral tributes are being left at the scene of the crash. One note left, addressed to John and Leon, said: "Can’t believe this has happened, I keep hoping I get a message saying you are both okay.

"Missing you already. You are both going to be missed.

"Going to miss all the fun times, all the laughing and the joking around."

Another message left on flowers simply said: "To the bestest brother – we love you and will never forget you."

Meanwhile, North Wales Truck Gathering will hold a ceremonial convoy "out of respect for the young lads and their families" in Ruthin today.

Leon was a big fan of tractors while Michael, who also played rugby for Ruthin Rugby Club, loved trucks. They both lived in Ruthin.

One pal described Michael as "always smiling."

In a tribute on the truck gathering Facebook page, they wrote: "It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the loss of a true friend and supporter of the North Wales Truck Gathering.

"Always smiling and willing to help us out you will be missed by all Michael Jones.

"Thoughts are with Michael’s family and friends at this very sad time."

Another added: "Heartbreaking news, such an amazing pair of lads who will be missed by us all. Shine bright boys."

While Becky Williams wrote: "We at North Wales Truck Gathering are doing a convoy tomorrow night out of respect for the young lads and their families who have lost their lives and those that r still fighting for them.

"Truckers Unite, we r family."

The three teenagers were travelling in a Vauxhall Corsa along with a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man.

The 16-year-old was taken to a local hospital and has since been transferred to a hospital in Aintree, Liverpool, with serious injuries.

The 19-year-old remains at in hospital with serious injuries.

The driver and passenger of the other vehicle – a Vauxhall Antara – are also still in hospital.

The 66-year-old male driver suffered minor injuries and the 68-year-old female passenger sustained serious injuries.

Sergeant Leigh Evans of the Roads Policing Unit at North Wales Police said on Saturday: “A thorough investigation into last night’s tragedy is ongoing in order that we can fully understand what happened.

“Our thoughts remain with the three families during this incredibly difficult time. All are being supported by specially-trained Family Liaison Officers.

“We have spoken to a number of people who present during the incident but we continue to appeal to anyone who we haven’t yet spoken with to get in touch.”
