Sweet way Fergie paid tribute to her late mum at Princess Eugenie’s wedding

When it came to royal wedding fashion, it was difficult to look beyond Princess Eugenie’s stunning Peter Pilotto gown on October 12.

Though there were of course, a number of guests whose style was worth taking note of – including Cara Delevingne who turned up in a top hat and tails, and Princess Beatrice who opted not to wear a bridesmaid-style dress while fulfilling her maid of honour role.

Mother-of-the-bride Sarah Ferguson also made some interesting choices, and was mocked for pairing her emerald ensemble with a green and gold hat that people compared to the Golden Snitch from Harry Potter.

But more interesting than this was her choice of accessories for the day – more specifically, her choice of bag.

Fergie, as the Duchess of York is affectionately known, carried a vintage tan-coloured Manolo Blahnik clutch bag at the wedding.

This was a particularly sweet choice as the bag previously belonged to her mother, Susan Barrantes, who died in a car accident in 1998.

Susan had previously carried the bag at a royal wedding herself, but not just any wedding – that of her daughter to Prince Andrew in 1986.

The Royal Family revealed the history of the bag in a statement on their official website.

They wrote: "Sarah, Duchess of York is wearing a dress designed by local Windsor company Emma Louise Design, with a vintage Manolo Blahnik bag.

"The bag was carried by Susan Barrantes at the Wedding of The Duke and Duchess of York in 1986."

At Sarah’s wedding, her mother paired the Manolo bag with a canary yellow dress and matching hat.

Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s wedding took place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

The pair first began dating after meeting at the Swiss ski resort of Verbier in 2011 and announced their engagement in January of this year.

More than 800 people joined them in the church to celebrate their marriage, including senior members of the royal family such as The Queen, Prince Charles and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The ceremony was followed by a reception at Windsor Castle and a black tie dinner in a marquee at Royal Lodge.

Celebrations continued into Saturday where nearly 500 a-listers enjoyed a "festival vibe" event complete with a fairground in the Lodge’s grounds.
