The Republican Senator for the state of Nebraska Ben Sasse wrote several letters to the DOJ complaining that federal prosecutors allowed Epstein off with a light sentence.
They bent over backwards to accommodate demands from his powerful legal team, the Miami Herald reported.
Sasse wrote: "The fact that this monster received such a pathetically soft sentence is a travesty that should outrage us all.
"I am particularly disturbed by this reporting indicating that federal prosecutors went out of their way to arrange this sweetheart deal for Epstein and conceal it from the women and girls that he abused who could have objected to it, in apparent violation of federal law."
The Senator even questioned whether there was any misconduct in the handling of Epstein's case in a letter to the DOJ.
He demanded a briefing on the agency's "decision-making process" in the case in another letter.
Sasse wrote: "We need answers on this epic miscarriage of justice."
The letters come after 15 Democratic members of Congress sent a letter to the DOJ demanding an investigation into the handling of the case.
Epstein, 65, is an investment banker from New York and was under investigation by the federal government for allegedly sexually abusing dozens of teenage girls.
He is said to have paid them for "massages" at his estate in West Palm Beach, Florida, in the early 2000s.
Epstein could have been put behind bars after a 53-page indictment was prepared, but the case was shelved after he pleaded guilty to charges of soliciting a single underage victim.
Neither Epstein – who was friends with the likes of Bill Clinton, Donald Trump and Prince Andrew – nor his enablers were prosecuted further by the federal government.
Epstein served 13 months in a county jail and during much of his sentence was allowed to leave the jail during six days of the week.
U.S. Labour Secretary Alexander Acosta, who was involved in the decision-making process, maintains that he handled it appropriately.
Prince Andrew, 58, was at risk of being dragged into Epstein's case because one of his former friend’s teenage victims, Virginia Roberts, was on the witness list to give evidence.
Miss Roberts, 35, now a mother-of-three living in Australia, alleged in a 2015 civil case that she had sex with Andrew three times in London, New York and on a private Caribbean island.
Andrew has vehemently denied the accusations and a judge ordered them to be struck from a separate civil lawsuit in 2015.
