Pregnant mum in one-bed flat in desperate appeal for bigger home after her two teenage kids move back in

Worried Beth Dance, 39, fears her family is in "crisis" and has desperately appealed for a bigger home.

The property on Devon Road in Plymouth was suitable for Beth and husband Martin until her 14-year-old son Zac moved back in.

Zac had been living with her ex-husband in Exeter before leaving in April.

A month later Beth found out she was pregnant with another child.

Then in September her 16-year-old daughter Chloe, who was living in the same Exeter home, unexpectedly appeared on Beth's front door following a disagreement.

The mum is now struggling to cope with the two extra mouths to feed, another on the way and no room to house them.

She has gone to Plymouth City Council for help, but ran into difficulty finding a flat with more bedrooms due to Martin's criminal record and the process itself.

Beth told Plymouth Live: “The children are sleeping on the floor in the living room on mattresses and we have to pull them into the room from our bedroom each night, then drag them back again in the morning.

“I can’t even buy a cot for the baby because there’s nowhere to put it.

“We’ve been told we may be waiting month months and I give birth in December.

“I’m just getting turned down and turned down for properties.”

Beth added that her family is "living in boxes" and that she feels "trapped in this situation".

Steve Ford, PCH Head of Neighbourhoods, told The Sun Online: "We have sympathy for Miss Dance's situation and have explained Devon Home Choice's banding and allocation process to her.

"Miss Dance's situation highlights the lack of suitable affordable housing in Plymouth.

"This is something we are trying to address with our numerous developments around the city.

"We are continually seeking and acquiring sites to meet this demand so that we can help people in Miss Dance's position."

The Sun Online has approached Plymouth City Council for comment.
