Off-duty correction officer fatally shot in possible road-rage attack

An off-duty New York City correction officer was shot and killed in a possible road-rage incident in Queens early Friday, police said.

The 27-year-old man was found shot once in the head in his car at 120th Street and 103rd Avenue in South Richmond Hill just before 2 a.m., officials said.

He was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The victim may have been arguing with an unidentified motorcyclist prior to being shot, according to witnesses.

“The entire Department of Correction is grieving this morning upon learning of the tragic shooting death of an off-duty correction officer. My deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences go out to the officer’s family, friends, and colleagues throughout the department. We are in close communication with the NYPD,” Department of Correction Commissioner Cynthia Brann said in a statement.

The motorcyclist was described as an adult male wearing dark clothing and a helmet.
