Mum recalls horrific moment young son, 3, fell fully-clothed into scalding bath leaving his skin falling off

Sam Bromby, from east Hull, said that Brandon suffered horrific injuries even though he was only in the bath for a few seconds.

She told the Hull Daily Mail: “He fell in and I immediately took off his clothes.

“Brandon didn’t scream at all because he was in shock.

“When I took off his clothes it was just horrible. The skin was falling off his hand.”

Sam added: “I didn’t realise hot water could do as much damage as any fire.”

The tot fell into the bath fully-clothed on Christmas Eve, 2014 and was quickly pulled out by Brandon’s sister who was 12 at the time.

He suffered burns on 24 percent of his body and will be scarred for life.

He was initially rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary before being transferred to Pinderfields in Wakefield to get specialist treatment.

Brandon was kept in hospital for six weeks and underwent a number of operations, including skin graft.

But even after he was allowed home he still needed care with Sam and husband Steve having to put cream on his little body every day as well as the youngster needing to wear pressure garments and have splinters on his hands.

His feet were so badly burnt he needed physio and needed to learn to walk all over again.

Luckily for the family Pinderfields has a Burn’s Club, especially set up to help children who have been badly burned.

The club, headed by Tracy Foster, aims to rehabilitate youngsters in a fun atmosphere and help the kids come to terms with their injuries.

Foster said: “The burns camps provide an opportunity for young people who have suffered burn injuries, to take part in a range of activities, meet others, share experiences and improve self-esteem. “

Sam said her son is now “doing brilliantly” and thanks to all the care and support is not scared of water and even likes a splash about in the bath.
