Mum dies in collision with a taxi after leaving a Sikh temple

A mother has reportedly died after a late-night collision with a taxi in Birmingham.

The 68-year-old married woman was hit by a taxi which collided with an overtaking Mercedes, police said.

People rushed to help her but she sadly died at the scene outside the Gurdwara Nanaksar in Smethwick.

Police cordoned off Waterloo Road for a number of hours after the crash at around 10 pm on Wednesday night.

It’s understood the woman was a worshipper at the Gurdwara, Birmingham Live reports.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital governor Rizwan Jalil had paid tribute to the woman on Twitter last night.

He wrote: "My heartfelt condolences to the family and close friends of the women killed in an accident on Waterloo Rd Smethwick.

"Anyone who has witnessed this collision should contact SmethwickWMP @WMPolice."

West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "On arrival, ambulance staff found bystanders trying to assist the woman.

"Crews and the doctor performed advanced life support, but sadly it was not possible to save her, and she was confirmed dead at the scene. There were no other injuries.
