A calf born with two faces has stunned milkmen in an south Indian village.

In a clip, filmed in Tirukoilur, Tamil Nadu, milk trader Kathiruval sits with the young cow at his feet.

He then pulls the newborn’s head up to show the place on its head where the two faces meet.

He said people flock to his house every day to see the ‘miraculous’ calf in person.

 Santosh Pillai, who also lives in the village, said: ‘We all were surprised when we saw the two-headed calf. It is a God’s miracle.’ 

A vet explained the phenomenon of being born with two heads is known as polycephaly, and is believed to occur when a single embryo begins to split into twins but stops.

The developed portion of the second body then remains attached.

Each head of a polycephalic animal has its own brain, which controls the organs and limbs.

Although the specific structure of the connections varies between each case, animals with such conditions don’t often survive more than a few months.
