Miracle boy, 13, who survived horror shark attack can't wait to get back in the water, his mum reveals as he’s pictured smiling in hospital

Keane Webre-Hayes – seen smiling in his hospital bed – almost died when he was savaged by an 11-foot predator in San Diago, California on Saturday.

Webre-Hayes was about 9ft deep at Beacon Beach, diving for lobster 150 yards from the shore when the animal attacked, biting him on the head, back, and shoulder.

His mother, Ellie Hayes, said during a press conference that her son had been very lucky, and the boy was still determined to catch her a “lobster dinner”.

"I think it is a miracle and I think Keane is a miracle.

"And I think he is very, very very strong – and he's a survivor now."

Hayes had been standing on a cliff in the suburb of Encinitas when she heard the commotion from the shore.

Other divers, including an off-duty police officer and off-duty life guard, came to the young man’s aid.

One of his rescuers Chad Hamel, who was out with a group of friends and also diving for lobsters, told NBC7 the youngster yelled: "I got bit!

"I paddled to [him] and there was a big wake of blood behind him. His entire back was open.”

He was then flown by a helicopter that landed on the beach to the Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego.

The boy underwent surgery and was in critical but stable condition more than nine hours later.

Miraculously the many bites missed the boy’s vital organs.

Dr Tim Fairbanks, from Rady Children's Hospital, said the boy was doing well but was still in a serious condition.

He said: "Keane wants you to know he has all his limbs, and he's going to be going home fully intact."

"We're thrilled to be where we are right now. But we still need to get him across the finish line and get him all the way better."
