The A40 road into Cheltenham has been closed from the GCHQ roundabout to the TGI restaurant junction and is expected to remain shut for much of the day as police examine the scene.

‘Anyone who was travelling along the A40 around 2am and may have seen something relevant or anyone with information should call 101 and quote incident 40 of 16 August,’ said a Gloucestershire police spokesman.

The closure of the A40 has caused major rush hour traffic congestion around Cheltenham because the road is the main route into the Spa town from Gloucester and the M5 motorway.
