Kim Jong-un desperately wants the POPE to visit North Korea despite tyrant persecuting religious prisoners and forcing subjects to be atheist

South Korean President Moon Jae-in will deliver the deluded despot's surprise invitation when he comes face-to- face with the Pontiff during a meeting next week.

"President Moon will visit the Vatican on October 17 and 18 to reaffirm its blessing and support for peace and stability of the Korean peninsula," said Moon's spokesman.

"When he meets with Pope Francis, he will convey Chairman Kim's message that he will ardently welcome him if he visits Pyongyang."

The shock invite comes just 12 months after a US State Department claimed North Korea was the world's worst persecutor of those who practice faith.

The Annual Report on International Religious Freedom determined it continues to dole out brutal punishments to those who engage in faith-bound acts.

The brutal punishments  – for those that dare to choose any god over the "beloved leader"- include  executions, torture, beatings and arrests, revealed the report.

“An estimated 80,000 to 120,000 political prisoners, some imprisoned for religious reasons, were believed to be held in the prison camp system…under horrific conditions,” it stated.

Last October, a Korean defector revealed how he was tortured and almost killed by Kim's cruel henchmen just because he was a Christian.

Choi Kwanghyuk, 55, said he was forced to hide his religious beliefs while living in the North Hamgyong province of the totalitarian state.

He escaped jail just before he was about to be sent to a prison camps and managed to escape across the border and flee to the US.

Kim told Moon of his wish to meet Pope France during last month's summit between the two leaders, the South Korean premier's spokesman revealed.

The Pope has already said he wants to visit Japan next year and it's thought Kim and his cronies hope he will pop over the Sea of Japan at the same time.

A recent census estimates 16 per cent of North Korea's population is Buddhist, 20 per cent Protestant and around eight per cent Roman Catholic.

Officially, North Korea's constitution guarantees freedom of religion as long as it does not undermine the state.

However, beyond a handful of state-controlled places of worship, no open religious activity is allowed.

The invitation to the Pope is the first by a North Korean leader since 2000. Although that meeting, proposed by Kim's father, Kim Jong Il, never materialised.

Paolo Affatato, the Asia editor for Fides Catholic news agency, said a visit by the Pope to North Korea would "provide concrete support for the peace process."

"North Korea can be seen in the framework of great attention that the pope and Holy See are paying to East Asia" with a clear awareness of the "political and diplomatic dividends that peace would bring on a global level," he said.

Kim held an unprecedented summit with US President Donald Trump in Singapore in June, and pledged to work toward denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

While Kim's actions since have fallen short of Washington's demands, the Trump administration is preparing for a second summit.

What citizens are told about Kim and his 'god-like' family

Kim Jong-il, Kim Jong-un's father, had a supernatural birth. According to his official biography, he was born on Korea’s most sacred mountain, Mt. Baekdu. At the moment of his birth, a new star formed and illuminated the sky.

Kim Jong-il was a fashion icon. In 2010, North Korean media decided that Kim Jong-il’s fashion had taken the world by storm.

The whole world loved Kim Jong-il. North Koreans were made to believe North Korea was a phenomenally important country, and that Kim Jong-il was the world’s most powerful leader.

Kim Jong-il Invented The Hamburger. Minju Joson, the North Korean publication, credit Kim Jong-il with creating the hamburger. It's said the leader invented a brand new sandwich and named it “double bread with meat.”

Kim Jong-il was a master golfer. According to his biography, Kim Jong-il first picked up a golf club in 1994, at North Korea's only golf course. He shot a 38-under par round that included no fewer than 11 holes in one.

Kim Jong-il never used a toilet. His biography states that the leader never used a toilet – he apparently didn’t need to urinate or defecate. He could control the weather too.

Kim Jong-un stole time back from the Japanese. North Koreans believe during the occupation by Japanese “imperialists” in 1919, time was stolen. North Korea set its clock back by 30 minutes on August 15, 2015, to get it back.

Kim Jong-un's haircut is highly fashionable. His shaved style is pretty popular in the country and even has a name – 'Ambitious'.

Before then, the leaders regularly traded threats and insults as North Korea pushed to develop a nuclear missile capable of hitting the United States.

The two Koreas held three summits this year, following years of confrontation marked by the North's nuclear and missile tests.
