Heartbroken mum of murdered schoolgirl, 13, fights back tears as she reveals agony at losing her 'unique' daughter

Tragic Lucy was found dead outside Southampton Sports Centre just 24 hours after vanishing from her mum's house 'to meet a friend'.

Heartbroken mum Stacey White, 30, promised that she "won't let Lucy's memories die" in an emotional TV interview – and described her daughter as "full of smiles, whirling around like a hurricane".

She said: "I will fight, I won't let Lucy's memories die, I won't let her be forgotten, I won't let this destroy any more people than it has already.

"I won't let whoever has done this destroy anyone else, the destruction that has been caused is destruction enough.

"My little girl is the biggest destruction that has been caused within this already.

"No-one else should crumble and that's why I've stayed as I have.

"The days merge into one, the hours seem as though they're going really quickly then other times they seem like they're not.

"Most days if you ask me what the day of the week it was, I couldn't tell you, it's just a complete whirlwind of everything that is going on whilst just feeling like it's still at the beginning as if it's the first day that you've been told but it's not."

The teen had left her home to visit a friend before her body was found two miles away on July 26. She had been stabbed to death.

Police since revealed the CCTV of the last confirmed sighting of Lucy on the day she disappeared.

It shows her walking past Tesco at 9.30am, close to the sports centre where she was found dead less than 24 hours later.

Detectives investigating the 13-year-old’s death think they might find clues in the private messages of prime suspect – family friend Stephen Nicholson – but Facebook bosses would not reveal his password.

The 24-year-old has twice declined to hand over his log-in details – despite allegedly being in contact with Lucy on the morning of her disappearance.

Officers were forced to apply to judges in the US for a court order demanding that the American firm hand over the information – a process that could delay their murder probe for months.

Judge Christopher Parker QC sentenced Nicholson to 14 months in jail for failing to provide the logon details after he dismissed his "wholly inadequate" excuse that providing his password would expose information about cannabis.

He blasted: "What you have done is obstructed the investigation, and a very serious investigation indeed. It means that the task of police investigating the murder of Lucy McHugh is that much more difficult."

Stacey added: "Lucy was the most unique child I know, she was a bit like an elastic band, she could never sit still, she was always on the go.

"She did so many different activities, in fact in her life, she did quite a lot of things others haven't done.

"She was always full of smiles, whirling around like a hurricane, she would scoop the boys up and kiss them until they cried, and squeezed them and was always coming through the door and joked how she was late and it was because she was talking to someone or had to help someone do something.

"There was never a time when she can't, 'I won't' or too busy, no matter what she was doing she would make time."
