Gateshead kebab shop Moulin Rouge stripped of web address after world-famous Paris nightspot kicks off

The other’s a Gateshead takeaway where hungry Geordies can get a kebab.

Both are called Moulin Rouge — but the north-east one has lost its web address after bosses at the iconic French cabaret kicked off.

They reported the name moulinrougewinlaton.co.uk to watchdog Nominet, which has ruled in their favour.

The two Moulins are not easily confused. Tickets for the Paris one start at £90 with dinners at £100-plus.

In the Gateshead district of Winlaton, the dearest dish on the menu is only £9.

Nominet’s Tony Willoughby said the “online takeaway kebab, pizza and burger menus conjure up none of the ambience of the Moulin Rouge — quite the reverse”.

But the site used press cuttings and posters of the French club, showing that boss Kemal Oz was “reckless” and “morally reprehensible” in choosing the name.

“He was clearly aware there was a famous Parisian venue,” said Mr Willoughby.
