A 58-year-old Spanish woman died when the car she was in plunged down a steep hillside into a reservoir after her husband got out to take a photo.
The husband has today been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, but he claims he only realized his wife was still in the car when it had disappeared over the edge of a beauty spot near Alarcon, Cuenca province on Wednesday.
Footage of the horrific incident, accidentally captured by a witness, showed their Land Rover Discovery plunging out of control towards the reservoir.
It shows the vehicle coming down from the road some 50ft above the water, and rolling over several times before landing in the reservoir.
Police divers recovered the victim’s body late on Wednesday and the vehicle was recovered yesterday.

The unnamed victim has been identified as a 58-year-old woman from Spain’s north-east region of Catalonia.
She had been travelling with her husband on a on a road trip around Spain when they stopped at a popular beauty spot called Plaza de Armas above the reservoir.
Alarcon mayor Pedro Parraga told local press the husband claimed he only realised his wife was still inside the vehicle when it was already on its way down the hillside.

He said: ‘There’s a wonderful view at that spot. The husband got out to take a photo and thought she she had got out of the vehicle as well but she stayed inside the car.
‘When he turned round, the car had gone over the side.’
The husband has today been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and is expected to appear in court later today or tomorrow.
Tests will take place on the car he was driving to see if there was a mechanical failure.
A police source said: ‘There has been an arrest, of the partner of the dead woman. He has been arrested for a crime of manslaughter.’
A spokesman for the local Civil Guard said a local court was coordinating the ongoing investigation and he was not in a position to say anything.
He said: ‘Police divers recovered the body of a woman from the inside of a vehicle in the reservoir late on Wednesday night.
‘The car was retrieved yesterday.’
