Doctor who performed Princess Eugenie’s life-changing surgery to attend wedding

With Princess Eugenie ‘s wedding just a day away, royal fans are looking forward to finding out which celebrity guests and royals will be attending.

Eugenie is set to tie the knot with boyfriend Jack Brooksbank in front of 850 guests at St George’s Chapel , Windsor Castle tomorrow

Her older sister Princess Beatrice is confirmed as the maid of honour, while Prince George and Princess Charlotte (the children of Eugenie’s cousin Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton) will be a pageboy and bridesmaid.

There’s one other particularly special guest who will be attending the wedding on Friday.

Eugenie’s mother Sarah Ferguson, has revealed doctor Jan Lehovsky, who performed surgery on Princess Eugenie when she was a child, has been invited to the royal wedding along with other NHS staff.

Eugenie was diagnosed with scoliosis, a condition in which a person’s spine is curved, when she was just 12 years old. She underwent surgery at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital (RNOH) in 2002, and had two 12 inch titanium rods placed in her back.

The procedure took eight hours, and Eugenie was in intensive care for three days afterwards. She then spent a further week in the hospital before being discharged.

She made a full recovery, and is not expected to need any more surgery for the condition.

In 2012, ten years after her surgery, Princess Eugenie agreed to become a patron of the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital, and in 2014 she reopened the children’s wing.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Sarah Ferguson said that staff from the RNOH had been invited to her daughter’s wedding to honour the fact that "she is walking up that aisle with a straight back because of them".

She said, "She did have what would have been very serious curvature of the spine. She certainly will be an extraordinary example of great work from the RNOH.

"The wedding is about love, future and inclusivity … What a huge, huge day for health, for the NHS, for the RNOH, and for hope. This is why this wedding is so beautiful – it’s hope for other children suffering from scoliosis."

Also rumoured to be attending Eugenie’s royal wedding are Ed Sheeran , Prince Harry’s ex Cressida Bonas, Robbie Williams and wife Ayda Field, and Ellie Goulding.

Princess Eugenie’s parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, will be in attendance, along with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle .

Camilla, wife of Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, will not be attending, as she has a prior engagement .
