A pensioner has celebrated his 100th birthday with the leap of a lifetime by jumping 15,000 feet from a plane – becoming one of the oldest people in Britain to skydive.

Former engineer ‘daredevil’ Sydney Crossland fell through the air for sixty seconds with an instructor and reached speeds of up to 125mph after jumping from the plane

Crossland was described as a ‘natural’ by his experienced instructor and even bragged before the jump he ‘wasn’t nervous’.

 Before embarking the journey he calmly said: Well, I’m excited. I’m not overly nervous, no.’

After the skydive at Old Sarum Park in Salisbury, Wilts, Mr Crossland said: ‘It was absolutely amazing.

‘When we actually started coming down, we could see all around us. It was an absolutely surreal experience.’

The centurion from Emsworth, Hants, jumped with instructor Henk Post, who has completed over 23,500 jumps.

Crossland lands after taking the leap of a lifetime. He says he hopes to beat the current world record for the oldest tandem skydive.

Mr Post said: ‘Sydney is a natural, I hope he enjoyed his skydive as much as I did.’

Mr Crossland even says he hopes to beat the current world record for the oldest tandem skydive.

The record is currently held by Verdun Hayes after he jumped 15,000 feet aged 101 and 38 days in 2017.
