Who is Clive in Emmerdale, who plays him and is he engaged to Leyla Harding?

But who exactly is Clive? Here's everything you need to know…

Who is Clive in Emmerdale?

Clive is Leyla Harding’s fiancé in Emmerdale.

He was first mentioned in the soap when she returned from Greece.

Having broken up David’s marriage to Tracy, Leyla’s return caused shockwaves through the village but she assured David and new girlfriend Maya that she was happily engaged to Clive, who she’d met in Greece.

Clive soon arrived in Emmerdale soon after and it turned out he had been engaged to another woman called Suzie when he met Leyla.

He then stole Suzie’s jewellery from her, convincing Leyla it was his and would provide for their future.

Suzie arrived in the village looking for her stuff and showed Leyla paperwork which proved that the jewellery really did belong to her.

Leyla decided that she didn’t want anything to do with Clive as he didn’t answer her calls when Suzie confronted her.

But she soon relented when Clive arrived, begging for another chance.

Who plays Clive in Emmerdale?

Clive is played by British actor Tom Chambers.

Tom is best known for playing Sam Strachan in both Casualty and Holby City.

He also twirled his way to winning the Glitterball Trophy after taking first place in 2008’s Strictly Come Dancing with pro partner Camilla Dallerup.

Tom also appeared in Waterloo Road.

His role in Emmerdale was announced in October 2018.

Is Clive a conman in Emmerdale and how does Frank Clayton know him?

Viewers were surprised when Clive already knew someone in the village who wasn’t Leyla.

It emerged Clive was Frank Clayton's former prison cellmate and Frank had taught him everything he knew about conning people while they were banged up together.

He told him: "Why are you here Clive? what's the con? Megan and Vanessa know all about my past, everybody does."

"There was no hiding, was there? When we did time. We shared a cell so I know all about you Clive. I created a monster."

Clive told him he had changed, adding: "All I want to do is to be with the woman I love, you keep our history to yourself and I'll keep your secrets."

But Frank rebuffed this and threatened to tell Leyla the truth saying"The only person you've ever loved is you and you're up to something Clive."
