What's the detective show about?

Luther is an award-winning BBC detective drama following the troubled and volatile DCI John Luther, played by Idris Elba.

Beginning in 2010, the programme has shown the London detective becoming increasingly consumed by the heinous crimes he's been investigating with the Serious and Serial Crime Units.

The first series saw him form an unlikely bond with seductive psychopath Alice Morgan, and they formed a twisted romance before Alice mysteriously disappeared.

Series four, which unfolded over a mere two episodes in 2015, saw Luther chase a cannibalistic killer with Cotard syndrome alongside his new colleague Emma.

Critics mostly agreed on the fact the ending, which saw Luther walking alone in his famous trench coat with few answers and fewer friends, was not a satisfying conclusion for fans.
