The Festival and Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas says someone pooped on his tent

New film The Festival showcases the UK music festival in all its unglamorous glory, complete with mud, rain, dodgy piercings and very questionable behaviour.

Star Joe Thomas is very at home with portraying the cringiest moments in the life of a typical British young adult thanks to his role as luckless Simon Cooper in The Inbetweeners.

And so it should come as no surprise that he’s had some pretty unpleasant experiences of his own at festivals in the UK.

He told NME that the worst festival experience of his own life was when a stranger decided to use his tent as an impromptu toilet.

“The defining one was the first festival I ever went to, which was Reading,” he said.

“We woke up in the morning and someone had pooed on our tent. It was classic, it was almost just like ‘welcome to the festival’.”

The Festival stars Thomas as Nick, a new university graduate who gets unexpectedly dumped by his girlfriend Caitlin (his Inbetweeners co-star Hannah Tointon).

His best mate Shane (Hammed Animashaun) decides that the perfect antidote to his heartbreak is a trip to a music festival, but the experience proves to be very far from relaxing.

The film’s actors clearly had to suffer for their art too as they shot scenes at some of the UK’s biggest festivals last summer.

So much so that Thomas ended up having to get a tetanus jab thanks to his filming commitments.

“Joe had to have a tetanus shot because he spent so much time in the mud,” director Iain Morris – who also co-created The Inbetweeners – revealed.

But the actor doesn’t seem to be too upset about it, saying: “Actually now, I don’t need to worry! It’s free medical care.”

The Festival is released on August 14 in UK cinemas.
