The co-host was in the audience as Kanye stared at his phone all night during “The Cher Show.”
One of the women of "The View" witnessed Kanye West’s appalling Broadway behavior firsthand last night.
The rapper was called out, hard, by one of the stars of "The Cher Show" on Monday, after he kept staring at his phone during the opening night performance.
As the show was happening, Jarrod Spector — who plays Sonny Bono in the musical — tweeted out, "Hey @kanyewest so cool that you’re here at @TheCherShow! If you look up from your cell phone you’ll see we’re doing a show up here. It’s opening night. Kind of a big deal for us. Thanks so much."
West later apologized, saying he and Kim Kardashian had "so much appreciation" for the cast’s "energy" — as a source told TMZ he was simply so impressed with the show he was taking notes on his phone.
"I wasn’t very far from Kim and Kanye and it was distracting," said Sunny Hostin on Tuesday morning. "You could see it. Everyone was staring at them anyway and you could see it during the performance."
Hostin said West wasn’t the only one who was whipping out his phone during the performance, something she just couldn’t comprehend. "They didn’t experience Cher because everyone had their phones out," she continued. "We’re here to see a show, why are you not living in the moment? Sometimes I never have pictures of the things I go to because I just want to to go them and experience it."
Abby Huntsman was particularly shocked it was another performer who had to be criticized for their behavior, as they should know better. "It surprises me when artists are on the phones because they know what it’s like to be on that stage, they know how annoying it is when you work so hard to get to that point and people are taking photos and spending that time on Instagram," she said.
As for reports West was just taking notes on his phone about the show, Meghan McCain wasn’t buying it. "That’s just a weird lie," she exclaimed. "I call BS on that. I’m sorry, I don’t believe that."
Whoopi Goldberg, no stranger to being on stage herself, ended the discussion with this:
"It’s very simple, stay home if you want to watch television. The theater is meant to be live. If you want to watch it [on a phone], then don’t go," she said. "It is distracting because onstage, we can see you. Put the phone down. Please, just be respectful of the artists. People are working really hard, if you’re distracting them by doing this, you can cause somebody to fall off the stage. It’s really important to pay attention."
