Strictly pro Karen Clifton makes awkward dig at head judge Shirley Ballas

Strictly pro Karen Clifton made an incredibly awkward dig at Shirley Ballas as she hit back at the criticism she received from the head judge on Saturday.

Appearing on It Takes Two today alongside partner and Casualty actor Charles Venn, Karen was asked about the comments she had received from the Latin expert.

The pair had danced a disco-themed cha-cha-cha during week one, which was largely praised by the judges. However Shirley had claimed that there weren’t enough cha-cha-cha moves and that it was too disco.

As the Strictly spin-off show’s co-host Zoe Ball addressed the comments, ex-EastEnders star Charles was seen giving Karen a comforting squeeze on the knuckles.

She asked: "She wanted more cha-cha-cha and it’s more disco… what did you think about that Karen?"

Karen sighed, replying: "Well, it was her opinion, I thought it fit the choreography.

"I would have loved a little bit more constructive criticism from the head judge."

Ouch.

She added: "But I mean, at the same time, I was pretty much inspired by him. And the music was more disco-ish and I thought we had the right amount."

This week, Karen and Charles will be dancing a quickstep to Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder.

"But, you know, I respect her opinion and we will give her a full-packed meal of a dance this week," Karen quipped.
