Strictly Come Dancing fans in tears as exes Kevin and Karen Clifton perform emotional dance together

The couple announced they had split earlier this year after three years of marriage but have remained good friends.

Viewers said they couldn’t help but feel emotional as the couple performed together during the professional group routine at the beginning of the show.

As their co-stars danced to Elton John's Your Song on the studio floor, Kevin and Karen danced together on the elevated stage.

They beamed as they held onto one another and looked more than happy to be working alongside one another.

One tweeted: “Kevin and Karen dancing to that beautiful song made me quite teary and emotional #Strictly.”

Another said: “I find it so cute that Karen and Kevin still dance together on Strictly even though they're not married anymore like we can STAN a friendship.”

While a third said: “Seeing Kevin and Karen dancing makes my heart melt.”

Earlier today the pair hit back at rumours they were warring behind the scenes of the hit BBC dancing show.

A representative told The Sun Online the claims were “untrue” after insiders said their relationship had turned “toxic”.

Karen previously revealed their dog Betty, who she kept custody of, has helped her cope with the split and enabled her to stay friends with Kevin.

Speaking to Dogs Today magazine, she explained: "Betty (and dance) has been the glue that has helped us get through this as friends…

"She is my baby, the apple of my eye.

"It’s been a tough time and I don’t think I would have got through it this well without her by my side.

"I guess I needed her and she needed me.

"Betty was our dog, Kevin loves her, but I am her ‘mummy’.

"It’s been a hard time for both of us and while Kevin and I are no longer together romantically, he still wants to come home to hug Betty.

"She’s been the catalyst to remind us how much we still care about each other."
