Stranger Things season 3 will "take a lot of risks" warns Hopper actor David Harbour

Having to wait until 2019 for the next season of Stranger Things isn’t the only risk the Netflix series is taking, according to David Harbour.

Harbour, who plays the now surprisingly endearing Chief Jim Hopper, told The Hollywood Reporter that the cast are heading out of their “comfort zones” for the upcoming season.

Things are being turned Upside Down, if you will.

“The scripts are really great this year,” Harbour teased. “And in the new directions that we’re going, all of us are taking a lot of risks. We’re all a little bit out of our comfort zone.”

Although reluctant to give too much away about our next trip to Atlanta, the actor did hint that season three is going to have a few more moments of “joy” and “silliness”.

“Just taking my story, for example, it’s fun to see Hopper having adopted Eleven. She’s become legitimised in the society, in the world of Hawkins. And he’s a father now,” he said.

“He’s raising a teenage daughter, with all that that entails. So I think that can be pretty funny to see his inadequacies in all of this.”

Not only is Stranger Things going to be riskier and funnier when it returns, it’s going to be more “exciting” too, thanks to an increase in the show’s special effects budget.

As well as teasing “more special effects”, Netflix’s Cindy Holland recently explained that the show’s delay is down to the “handcrafted” nature of the show.

“[The Duffer brothers] want to deliver something bigger and better than what they did last year. And so they really want to take the time to get it right,” she said.

Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
