Spice Girls reveal new slogan to replace Girl Power in light of #MeToo movement

Spice Girls have revealed what their new slogan is ahead of their massive arena tour this summer.

The girl band, who formed in 1994, has just announced tour dates across London in June 2019, with Scary, Sporty, Ginger and Baby Spices back in the frame.

But they will not be singing and dancing under the banner of Girl Power, which became their slogan throughout their time in the spotlight until their broke up in 2000.

Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton, will reform in June 2019 without their Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham, under the banner of People Power.

In an interview on ITV’s Lorraine, Geri said: "I think it’s more than that [Girl Power] – it’s ‘People Power’.”

Emma added: "It’s People Power […] Equality, everything. It’s all inclusive now. We’re about equality and bringing everyone together."

Geri: “We use the word feminism. Look it up in the dictionary – equalisation between women and men – it’s everybody.

"The last year was very dark, the whole #metoo thing. It had to happen. Honesty is paramount to healing, but then we move into the light.”

The group also revealed their hopes for a "full reunion" with Victoria on board, though they asserted that she is supportive of them off stage.

Mel B said: “[She’s been] incredibly supportive.”

Geri added: “The five of us have always had this thing, we support each other on and off stage.

"We did speak to her and meet up with her and we said, ‘Look, you’re in the band on and off the stage, it doesn’t matter.’”

Emma added: “It’s lovely to see she’s supporting us,” before Mel C said: "We’re very proud of Victoria. She works incredibly hard and what she’s achieved is amazing.

"She will always be a Spice Girl, as we will and always have been.”

On the idea of a full reunion, Mel B added: "I’m always hopeful. I’m always hopeful that we’re going to get back together all of us and perform and tour America and do everything else…”.

"It’s going to work at some point.”

But according to the women, things have changed a bit since they were last in the band, with Geri explaining how they all have very different political views now, but at least they can agree on their pride at Prince Harry, who was a young fan of theirs, as he married Meghan Markle, and that they will be dragging their children on tour.

Lorraine airs weekdays at 8.30am on ITV.
