Major spoilers ahead for Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Solo: A Star Wars Story writer Jon Kasdan has defended his decision to bring back classic villain Darth Maul.
The writer recently took to Twitter to share 52 random facts and tidbits about the film and, in the penultimate one, he tries to explain why it was a good idea to bring back the Sith Lord who was bisected in The Phantom Menace.
“If you felt it was just a cheap stunt, I suppose that’s fair,” he began. “But the truth is Maul was built into the design of Solo in many subtle ways, including the name Crimson Dawn, the artefacts in Dryden’s study, and Qi’ra’s use of Teras Kasi.”
“Maul is my favourite character from he prequel trilogy,” he continued. “I love that Dave Filoni brought him back and expanded on his story in Clone Wars and Rebels. I love that there is at least some continuity between the shows and the movies.”
Darth Maul was brought back to life in the Clone Wars and Rebels animated series, firstly being given robotic spider legs to make up for his chopped-off limbs, before eventually ending up with two humanoid legs again.
